Benefits of Single Stream Recycling

To boost the use of recycling bins, authorities are abandoning the multi-box system for a new program known as ‘single stream.’ Instead of relying on households to sort all of their material into separate recycling containers, everything is tossed into the same one. It’s loaded into the same truck and sorted at the collection depot.

Single Stream Recycling

Increased Use Of Recycling Containers

Using single streaming recycling bins encourages households to be more aware of what’s going to the landfill by making the process no different regarding workload. A recent four-month trial period in the city of Boston found this process decreased the amount of garbage by 40% and increased recycling by 20%, saving the city an estimated $750,000 annually. Less work also means the elderly, the sick, and those with disabilities are better able to use the system.

Reduced Collection Fees

Not having to load several recycling bins means you only have to pay for one. It can be collected in a single-compartment truck. This translates into huge cash savings and a single-compartment truck that will get the job done in one pickup rather than pay for more expensive multi-compartments and several trips to the same home. There are less maintenance and fewer parts to replace.

Single streaming also gives you better flexibility. If there is more waste to pick up or a vehicle breaks down, you can use the same truck for garbage, yard waste, site cleanup, and more.

Economically Feasible

Because more people are using recycling containers and there is more product moving through the system, you are open to different options. This includes the chance to work out deals with various processors to get a higher payout per load. Paper is a prime example of this. Because there is more of each material coming in, you can have it hauled to the processing plant faster. This means there is less storage required.

Single Stream Recycling Process

These systems use a variety of methods such as magnets to help sort the different materials. This reduces the workload on employees, reducing the chance of injury. Therefore, workers compensation programs and insurance will decrease. There are also fewer working hours required per ton of waste, leaving workers available for other projects and reducing the amount spent on salaries.

If it hasn’t already arrived, single steam recycling will be coming to a curb-side near you. The rate of residential materials being recycled has stagnated since curbside recycling began in full force in the 1990’s. This is not to say that your town’s recycling program may not be doing well. It just means that we can all be doing better. But with recycling rates hardly growing in the last few years, how can we do this?

Well, introducing single steam recycling to save the day! OK, so that’s great; but what is it? Single steam recycling is an attempt to make recycling collection as simple as possible for residence, so as to encourage everyone to recycle as many materials as possible. More information can be found at the Las Vegas dumpster rental and recycling website which talks about replacing your current collection bin or bins with a single large cart that will hold an entire week’s worth of recyclables including corrugated cardboard and magazines. Gone are the days of sorting different recyclables into different buckets, or even mixing your recyclable containers into one bin while stacking corrugated cardboard and magazines on the side.

As the name implies, single steam recycling will let you add recyclables to your new cart as you produce them, or in a single stream, just like the regular trash. Read a newspaper, throw it in the cart; have a can of soup, throw it in the cart; sort out your junk mail and throw it in the cart. No need for extra bundling, or extra piles; which means less clutter in your home or garage. Making recycling easier means more participation and more participation means that more materials get recycled.

With the extra space in your new cart, make sure you are taking advantage of all the materials that can be recycled in your area. Call your town or trash hauler to get the latest list of the acceptable recyclables. There is a good chance that new materials may have been added since you last checked. Now that recycling is so easy and you have plenty of room in your recycling cart, there is no excuse for not recycling all the materials that you can.

Here is a list of materials that most towns are now accepting in their recycling program. If your town does not accept some of these, call them and ask why. There are markets available for all of these materials, so there is no excuse for these to be left out of your local collection.

Glass containers
Metal containers
Aluminum foil and containers
#1 – #7 plastic containers
Milk cartons
Juice boxes
Junk mail
Corrugated cardboard
Magazines and catalogs

Remember that it is still important to keep trash and non-recyclables out of your recycling cart. While your trash is simply disposed of in a landfill or incinerator, your recyclables are marketable products that become the raw material to make new products. With your help, that plastic bottle may become a fleece sweater that keeps you warm; or that newspaper may become sheet rock for your next construction project, or that metal container may be used in your child’s next bicycle. What you throw in the trash today is gone, but what you recycle today may come back to you as new. Respect it for the resource that it is!

Single steam recycling have bins and systems require a different system for sorting than traditional depots. This means special equipment is a must; equipment and systems that make it efficient. Many collection centers need updating to it.

Single steam recycling containers are a huge benefit for the homeowner, the authorities in charge of the system, the workers, and the environment. It can be a huge investment, but one that can help ensure a healthy future for everyone. Regardless of the method, the most important thing is to use recycling bins and work together for the common good.

Inspirational Wheelchair Ramps

If you need a wheelchair ramp for house use and are trying to save money, you may be looking into used wheelchair ramps. While this can be an excellent way to avoid a massive expenditure, you should look closely before you buy. After all, if the ramp is faulty or decaying, serious injuries could take place. So what specifically should you look for or think about before buying a wheelchair ramp? Here we will look at five different things to beware of before you buy.

One of the first things to do when looking is to examine used wheelchair ramps to make sure they aren’t rotting or rusting away. This includes underneath and other places that may not be as obvious. Used ramps for wheelchairs if made from wood or metal will eventually have rotting and rusting problems. Don’t get stuck with a decaying ramp that isn’t safe to use anymore. You should consider using a dumpster rental company for all the wood rot and metal when you start to remove it. You can check out their dumpster sizes and pricing page to get a better idea on what size would make sense depending on how big the wheelchair ramp is.

dumpster pricing and sizes

Not all ramps are designed to hold the same amount of weight. If you’re buying used wheelchair ramps, especially if you’re doing so from a private owner, make sure they have paperwork that verifies how much weight the ramp can hold or that you can find out by some alternative means. This may be especially important if you’re looking at used folding wheelchair ramps or portable ramps. Again, this precaution prevents injuries. Not to mention, it saves you from wasting money on a ramp you find out you can’t use.

Another thing to consider, especially with Wood ramps, if it’s approved for outdoor use and has been sealed properly. Sealing, as you probably already know, makes the wood weather resistant and holds off decay for years in some cases. Otherwise, the rain, snow, and sun exposure pile up against it and cause the wood to rot and fall apart, making it extremely unsafe to stand on. Prevent major accidents by putting this requirement at the top of your used wheelchair ramps list.

You want to be careful of who you buy used wheelchair ramps from. A good place to start may be wheelchair accessory companies. Some of these businesses also sell pre-owned accessories, and they’ve been tested and certified, so you know that they’re safe to use and meet current standards. If you do meet with private sellers, keep in mind the above problems and features to be on the look out for. Test the ramp out before buying.

The Americans with Disabilities Act specifies how wide ramps should be the maximum slope and rise, how wide landings should be, and how high handrails are placed. Does the ramp meet these requirements (available online)? If not, keep looking for other used wheelchair ramps.

In summary, check the ramp in question for rot or rust, find out its max weight capacity, find out if it’s treated for outdoor use, buy from a trusted source, and evaluate it against ADA standards for wheelchair ramps. All of this will go a long way to ensuring you find used wheelchair ramps that are safe for your loved one.

New Updated Look!

Soar Halifax Designed Site

This blog post is to introduce you to the new site design that has been created with the end user in mind. Please contact me if you like it or have any recommendations for me.

I chose to not go too overboard with the new design and keep it as simple as possible for superior site navigation. Some of the design concepts were created from observing some really cool website like Interior Designs which focuses for on home interiors but designs can come in any shape or form! I enjoyed the colors and architecture they used for their site.

Also, to learn a bit more in detail about what I’m going for you can visit this article I posted a little while ago

Anyway, I wanted to keep this short and let you know what was going on with the new site. I got a lot of interesting content coming your way so make sure to check back with us routinely. I am very excited and look forward to this journey!

Thank you for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you and responding to (hopefully) a lot of comments.
